You know that quality content is half the SEO battle, but what do you write about? Have you ever noticed that content seems to fall into the same predictable patterns? There’s a reason for it! Content that touches people is more likely to be shared.
Motivation
We love personal stories that are inspirational and remind us that whatever our dream is – it’s possible. I got a text from a harrowed young professional the other day. She was worried about her new business. I could relate. I’ve been there, too. We all like underdog, college-dropout, and Phoenix stories. They remind us that we can beat the odds. If you’re going to write a motivational piece, skip the fluff and add real encouragement. Practical advice is best.
Problem Fixers
How to articles are among the most highly sought after, online and off. We want to know how to do it, and how to do it ourselves. Be specific. Tell the world step by step how to unstop their sink, fly a plane, or dye their own hair. For complex projects and skills, try writing a how to start or beginners guide.
The Middle Road
Quality content that motivates and fixes problems is a hard combination to master, but the results are worth it. Start with inspiration; add a plan, and then specific directions.
Humor
If content makes us smile or laugh it satisfies our basic need for entertainment. A little humor can help us make it through a tough day. It’s highly sharable as well. To be successful you may need to tap into the slightly taboo or current topics. Adding insight to otherwise mundane aspects of our daily lives is also great.
Secrets
That word secrets is often overused, but it still works. You know my Bikini Principle. Give it away. Not all of it, but do share something truly of value. Content that challenges what we generally believe.
Stories
The voice you use in your content and the way you weave your tail will impact your impact. Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through. People want to know who they’re working with. Share your story. When possible, add visuals.
Yes you can do this on your stuffy business site. Share something personal on your About Us page.
